Southern Naval Command and Coast Guard Station Fort Kochi celebrates 'International Day of Yoga'

The International Day of Yoga - 2022 was celebrated on June 21, 2022 by all units under the aegis of Southern Naval Command.

This year, as the nation celebrates Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to mark the 75th year of Independence, various activities including Mass Yoga and Meditation were conducted in the run up to IDY at SNC from May 19 - June 20, 2022.

On May 19, 2022, practice for Common Yoga Protocols was conducted at INS Garuda under the guidance of Mr. Rajgopal Krishnan, a renowned faculty from the Art of Living foundation. Various other outstation units and ships under SNC also commenced their IDY-22 activities from May 22.

On 17th and 18th Jun 22, INHS Sanjivani organised sessions on 'Adopting Yoga in Daily Life' and 'Benefits of Yoga' at Sagarika by Vandana Mongia, a qualified instructor in Yoga therapy and Mr. Vijaykumar K, faculty from the Art of Living.

On June 20, 2022, a yoga quiz competition was organised by Anti-Submarine Warfare School on behalf of Headquarters Southern Naval Command at Sagarika Auditorium Kochi with an aim to promote awareness about Yoga. Seven teams participated in the event and team Dronacharya emerged as the winners of the competition.

On the eighth International Day of Yoga, mass yoga sessions were conducted at Kochi Naval Base. All personnel and families were guided about the basic ways to adopt Yoga in day-to-day activities for a healthy physical and mental lifestyle.

The IDY-22 event saw enthusiastic participation of about 2000 Naval personnel including Officers, Sailors, Civilians and their families, at various units under HQSNC. Events were also conducted on a grand scale at outstation SNC units located at Mumbai, Lonavala, Jamnagar, Chilka, Coimbatore, Goa and Ezhimala.

On the occasion Indian Coast Guard units based at Kerala & Mahe region conducted mass session of yoga. The yoga sessions were conducted with the theme "Yoga for Humanity" & "Yoga for Wellness". Coast Guard personnel and their family members participated in the yoga session enthusiastically and wholeheartedly. The event also helped the participants to understand the significant role of yoga in leading a better life with elevated physical, mental and spiritual health.
