The Minister of Defence, A.K. Antony has informed in the Parliament that there was no proposal for procurement of additional C-17 Globemaster III aircraft for the Indian Air Force.
The government had cleared in June the purchase of 10 Boeing C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft costing $4.1 billion. The deal is happening through foreign military sales (FMS) and the aircraft is expected to be delivered two years after the signing of the contract.
Boeing’s four-engine C-17 are large heavy-lift military transport aircraft, normally used to transport troops and cargo over long distances and are capable of carrying up to 75 tonnes.
