Eurofighter fights to re-enter MMRCA competition

EurofighterMarch 04, 2013: While respecting the Indian Government's decision to eliminate the Typhoon and progress negotiations with Dassault Aviation for the Rafale, the Eurofighter consortium is staying on the sidelines prepared as ever to re-enter the MMRCA competition. Eurofighter CEO Enzo Casolini said last month in Abu Dhabi that he believed the Eurofighter was "still there" and that the company was prepared to respond if the Indian Government came back to them. The Eurofighter Typhoon, which faced off against the Dassault Rafale in a final evaluation, lost, and was eliminated in January 2012.

The Eurofighter case was also pushed by UK PM David Cameron when he visited India last month, where he called the Eurofighter a "superior" aircraft that could be "delivered within months" from a contract signature. He also indicated that the price of the aircraft could be reduced. To be sure, there are no indications at this stage that the MoD intends to divert from the laid down process as far as the MMRCA is concerned, with IAF Chief N.A.K. Browne saying he expects all negotiations to be complete by May-June, with a contract signature by December this year.
