November 6, 2012 : Sikorsky, whose S-92 Superhawk lost the Indian Air Force contract for 12 VVIP helicopters to rival AgustaWestland, has revived its pitch to supply its platform to the Indian Air Force, amidst uncertainty over the AW101 supply contract.
Last month, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) sent a final show cause notice to AgustaWestland, granting the firm 21 days to explain why the contract should not be scrapped, funds reimbursed and the three helicopters so far supplied returned to the company. In early 2010, Sikorsky had protested to the MoD over its defeat, though this was disregarded by the government. As things stand, the three supplied AW101 VVIP choppers are sitting idle in a single hangar at Palam Air Force Station, and have not been touched since February this year when the MoD ordered an investigation into alleged irregularities in the Rs 3,600 crore deal.
