A fake bomb concealed in a wedding cake carton was flown undetected on a cargo flight to Istanbul and the British investigative agencies are looking at the security lapse. The wedding cake box was delivered to the UPS office in North London and the box contained a timer, wires and detonator.
This incident and an earlier one wherein a bomb disguised as a printer ink cartridge was flown to East Midlands, led to investigations and tightening of security procedures of cargo flights. A spokesperson of the department of transport said the bomb hoax was not related to terrorism. The UK is said to have one of the toughest security regimes for air cargo in the world.
