The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has arrested 10 individuals from around the world, including the United States, which it alleges are part of an international cybercrime ring linked to the Yahos malware. Yahos is associated with the notorious Butterfly botnet, which compromised more than 11 million computer systems and resulted in an estimated $850 million in losses from the theft of consumers’ credit cards and bank accounts.
According to reports, Facebook was instrumental in identifying the root cause, the perpetrators, and those affected by the malware. Yahos targeted Facebook users from 2010 to October 2012.
