Cincinnati zoo builds new fence after Harambe incident
The zoo at the centre of the Harambe gorilla shooting controversy has installed a new barrier after pictures of its ‘inadequate’ security sparked outrage. Cincinnati Zoo has been heavily criticised across the globe after a four-year-old boy fell into one of its enclosures.
The child came into close contact with endangered ape Harambe, and the US zoo took the decision to shoot dead the gorilla.
The news sparked outrage — which was only stoked further after an image of the fence protecting visitors from the gorilla enclosure was circulated. It showed a three-foot-high barrier which parenting experts said a child could easily overcome. The original three foot fence has been slammed as “inadequate” after the four-year-old slipped through it, dropping 15 foot into the moat, where he was able to come face to face with the 28 stone gorilla.
