As part of the promotional extravaganza of KFC’s grilled chicken, a man dressed as Colonel Sanders sneaked into the United Nations recently in what actually sounds like a story from The Onion. Not only did the colonel manage to find his way into the restricted zones, but he actually posed for photos in the main General Assembly hall beneath the UN logo and with Ali Treki, the President of the UN General Assembly.
And just for good measure, the good colonel also submitted a letter—signed by KFC President Roger Eaton—that lobbies the UN to recognise the fictional Grilled Nation to be accepted as a member state. The official response from the United Nations, which has since deemed the letter void: “It should not have happened – that I will stress, and very strongly...There was some lapse in security.”
