Boeing announced the winners of the 11th annual Boeing National Aeromodeling Competition, one of India's largest and most popular aeromodeling programs designed for aspiring aerospace engineers. This year, the competition drew more than 1,179 students representing 115 institutions across India.
46 finalists from 14 teams were selected for the finale held at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. Three teams were declared winners of the competition.
Salil Gupte, President, Boeing India & South Asia, said, "Now in its eleventh year, this competition has continued to grow into India's largest aeromodeling platform, giving students an opportunity to turn their passion for aviation and engineering into hands-on experience. I congratulate all the participants and winners and thank our academic partners for their continued collaboration."
The zonal rounds of the competition were held at IIT Kanpur, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Madras, and Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) Bhubaneswar.
The competition, sponsored by Boeing, and conducted in partnership with IIT Kanpur, IIT Gandhinagar, KIIT Bhubaneswar, IIT Madras, and Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT)-IIT Delhi began in 2013 to engage aerospace engineers in building industry solutions. Participants design, build, test, and fly fixed-wing aircraft models under defined performance, safety, and mission criteria.
This year, the students were given a challenge to focus on a "collaborative humanitarian airlift mission" that evaluated aircraft design, flight stability, payload integration, and coordinated mission execution across paired teams.
Over the years, Boeing has strategically invested in helping nurture talent for the aerospace sector in India. Its programs, including Boeing University Innovation Leadership Development (BUILD), past programs such as the Boeing HorizonX India Innovation Challenge and the Accelerated Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AME) Apprenticeship program have continued to empower entrepreneurs and are helping build a skilled workforce for the country's aerospace and defence sector.
