A grand jury has indicted a former University of Nebraska-Lincoln student in connection to a security breach a year ago. Daniel Stratman, 23, already faced a criminal charge—reckless damage to a protected computer during unauthorised access—filed by the US Attorney’s Office in December. Now he faces a dozen counts.
According to a news release from US Attorney Deborah Gilg’s office, two of the counts allege that between May 23 and 24, 2012, Stratman “knowingly caused the transmission of a programme, information, code and command,” causing damage to a protected computer owned by the University of Nebraska and Nebraska State College Systems computer system.
In the nine other counts, which occurred between April 30 and May 23, 2012, he is accused of exceeding his authorised access to a computer and obtaining information from a protected computer.
